Well if you all have not heard there is a large wild fire in Boulder county. The fire is located in the foothills and mountains. The last update was that it was 7100 acres and 63 structures/homes have been burned, with 3500 people being evacuated. We had a large plume of smoke over our house from the fire, which started yesterday. Kevin and I were able to get some pictures of the fire from our porch, keep in mind that we are far away from the flames. This should give you an idea of how high the flames must have been.
This was shortly after the fire had started, about 12 noon so about 2 hrs after the fire started and the winds were blowing about 45 miles per hour.
This is later in the after noon you can see the clouds moving a little more north. We had to keep our windows closed until about 5pm b/c the smoke was over us for most of the day due to the high winds.
This is a view from our front porch just to give you an idea of how far the smoke was traveling east.
This is just before sunset. You can see how much the fire has spread since earlier. The earlier pictures are when the fire was 2200 acres. This picture and the next one are when the fire was 3500 acres.
This is a picture after dark. It is not a good picture but I wanted you to get an idea of how big the flames were to the point that we could see so much of them from our deck. Just a scary thought.
I didn't get any pictures today because you can't see the mountains due to the thick layer of smoke blocking them . Since yesterday the fire has moved more north, north west, and north east. So we really can't see too much from the house now, even though the fire is larger.
I hadn't heard about this...wow! Keep the fire away from you! I haven't updated my blogs in months..I really should!
